"...easy comparisons to old Nirvana and Subpop bands from back in the day. With their feel for the current alternative music scene and the ability to take the mundane sound and push it out of the mix, Song of the Siren is definitely a band to keep your eye on in 2008."
-- Guestlist Magazine
"...tunes that sway from chaotic to calm, topped with a voice that bounces from siren sweet to punk rough...a unique alternative rock experience."
-- Campus Circle
"...an elastic, expressive voice..."

ABOUT SOS
SOS frontwoman, Isul Kim, just might be the first major female rockstar of Korean descent. Infused with the grit of her New York City upbringing, armed with a Harvard degree, and raised on classical piano, Isul brings a unique perspective to Song of the Siren's brand of alternative rock.
After a two years as a touring solo artist, Isul partnered up with young drummer Anthony Petrocchi in July 2007 to create Song of the Siren. Just after finishing up their first recording in 2008 (bass tracks by Eric Alonzo), Song of the Siren incorporated Steve Muscatell on lead guitar and Tim Guandalini on bass, who helped with regional tours to promote the debut album before moving on to another project. Now, Isul forges ahead with newly inspired musical vision in 2009, not alone, but with a fierce independence.
SOS's story is just beginning...
DEBUT ALBUM, "City Lights Are Blinding You" OUT NOW!
"This album is pretty much a snapshot of my transition from being a delicate acoustic solo artist to being an unrelentless rockstar. I had to grow a pair of hairy balls. I had to dig way deep to those unbearable things that hurt the most. the first half of the album is the in-progress result of becoming something uglier, edgier and harder. the second half is more reminiscent of my days travelling cross country with my acoustic Everly Bros. Gibson on my back. Growing pains are so strong on this album. You know how it's supposed to hurt the first time? Well, I hope I can increase that oh-so-good virginal hurt for the next Song of the Siren record, because I'm ready to go insane after this first release..."
-- Isul Kim, frontwoman/songwriter (2008)
Song of the Siren's no-frills debut, City Lights Are Blinding You, is filled with fresh, catchy songs, warmed to a timeless glow by vintage sensibility. Recorded live to 2” tape at John Vanderslice's Tiny Telephone studio in San Francisco in fall 2007, Song of the Siren and producer Garry Ventura were fortunate to be assigned to work with engineer Justin Phelps (Cake, Mars Volta). Phelps invited the band to finish their record at his own studio, Hyde Street Studio C, which had hosted bands like CCR and Jefferson Airplane. Finally, their record was mastered at the renowned The Plant Studios by recording guru John Cuniberti (Satriani, Neville Brothers).
